Sonoma Ranch Golf Club, is a Public, 18 hole golf course located in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
When one thinks of the desert, one thinks of sand. There's plenty of sand on the Sonoma Ranch Golf Course. But there are also lush green fairways which, set against the deep blue sky, create a startling contrast. It's an oasis in the desert.
The course, designed by Cal Olsen, rolls up and down the desert hills. The challenge comes from the length, with a number of long holes, although there are five tee boxes, so you don't have to be a long hitter to succeed. Every hole is dotted with sand traps, so sand comes into play frequently.
There are only a few water hazards. The course is best known for its undulating bent grass greens, which vary in difficulty, according to Olsen. The size and slant of the greens change, depending on the length and layout of the hole.
With the challenging golf comes enchanting desert scenery, with breathtaking views of the Organ Mountains, Picacho Peak and the Mesilla Valley. The course plays 7,028 yards from the black tees, with a number of challenging holes.
Las Cruces Country Club closed in 2011. The property sold for $7.1 million in early 2014. In late 2014, the country club purchased all assets of Sonoma Ranch Golf Course for slightly less than $5 million. Sonoma Ranch Golf Course is now owned entirely by the Las Cruces Country Club

We were the 4th group on the course at 8:30 on a beautiful Sunday morning. Played thru one foursome and never saw anyone else. Nice diversity of long and short holes.
